BAPTISM, A CALLING OR SAVING?

The following scriptures support the article titled “THE LAW BY WHICH TO BE SAVED” or  “SabbathS to be Saved”.

“Called Scriptures

Mat 9:13  (Mark 2:17; Luk 5:32) But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Mat 22:3  And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.

Act 2:39  For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Mat 20:16  (22:14) So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

Gal 1:6  I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:  Gal 5:13  For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.  Eph 4:1  I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called

Eph 4:4  There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

Col 3:15  And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.  1Th 2:12  That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.  1Th 4:7  For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

2Th 2:14  Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.  1Ti 6:12  Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.  2Ti 1:9  Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,  Jas 2:7  Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?   1Pe 1:15  But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

1Pe 2:9  But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

1Pe 2:21  For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

1Pe 3:9  Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

1Pe 5:10  But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

2Pe 1:3  According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:  Jud 1:1  Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:  Rev 17:14  These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

Saved scriptures”.

Mat 10:22  (Mark 13:13) And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. (shall be, should be are future tenses.  In Acts 16:31 we see they have not believed yet but the same wording is there “shalt be”, proving it is a future tense meaning.  Also in Acts 27:20 we see “hope”… “should be saved”.  As Heb 11:1 says “hope” is something expected in the future, not yet received otherwise there is no need to “hope” for it!  See also Rom 10:9 “IF”.).

Mat_24:13  But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Mat 24:22  (Mark 13:20) And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. (Here we see the be saved refers to a future time.  See also Acts 27:31; Rom 9:27).

Mar 16:16  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Luk 13:23  Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, Luk 13:24  Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. Luk 13:25  When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:

In Luk 13:23 the question relates to a present time “be saved” or could be rephrased to “are saved”.  Jesus puts the answer into the future i.e. at the end of the world or on judgement day.  His answer starts with advice on striving to achieve something in the future.

Joh 3:17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.  Joh_10:9  I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

Act 2:21  And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Act 2:47  Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Act 11:14  Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

Act 15:11  But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.  Act 16:31  And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.  Act 27:20  And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.

Act 27:31  Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved. [be saved, again refers to a future time].

Rom 9:27  Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved: (When Esaias said “shall be” he spoke of a future time.  Isa 10:22, Rom 11:5).

Rom 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (the “IF” is a condition not yet met; still the “shalt be” is used to show it is a conditional future meaning).

Rom 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Rom 11:26  And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, .. (we know this refers to a future event).

1Co 3:15  If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

I will not continue with quotes as hope it is apparent as regards being saved, scripture puts it as a future event after judgement day not a present event resulting from baptism.  There are scriptures that refer to a present time saving.  If we read the accounts of the following examples we should clearly see the difference between a future and present timing.

Mat 8:25  And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.

Mat 14:30  But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

Joh 12:27  Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

I trust you will conclude what the scriptures teach, that we are called to be saved and that saving only happens if and when we endure to our last breath.  For explanation of "hath" see the article.  It is a future Greek tense.

Eze 18:19 Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.
Eze 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
Eze 18:21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Eze 18:22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
Eze 18:23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
Eze 18:24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
Eze 18:25 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?
Eze 18:26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
Eze 18:27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
Eze 18:28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Eze 18:29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?
