IS EVERYTHING BAD THAT HAPPENS TO US OF THE DEVIL?

Today's afternoon discussion is as titled. Below are some points for your groups to discuss. Q. In the Old Testament we do not read of the devil tempting people except with Adam and Eve; but we do read of offerings to devils. (Lev 17:7, Deu 32:17, 2Chron 11:15 Psa 106:37). Is there any significance to this? A. Israel was not deceived they chose to disobey the law they knew. Q. How is the devil described or his bad attributes? A. Mat 4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: Rev 16:14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole Mat 13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. Luk 4:5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. Luk 4:6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. Luk 4:7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. Luk 8:12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. Luk 9:42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. Joh 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. Act 13:10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? 1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Heb 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 1Jn 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning ____________ 1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. Q. What temptations are common to man? Lust, 1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. Mar 7:20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. Mar 7:21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Mar 7:22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: Mar 7:23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. Jas 3:15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. [i.e. wisdom, standards and reasoning of world rather than of God’s word]. Jas 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: Jas 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Jas 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Q. How does God give us a way to escape? Psa_81:12 So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels. Gal_5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 1Th_4:5 Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: 2Pe 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2Pe 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: Eph 6:11 ++ Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Jas 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. _________________ Practical application. So when a relationship or marriage breaks up for example because the man says to the woman she cannot go out or do something. The woman defies and goes out or still does it. Is that of the devil? See Gen 16:9 Hagar and Sarah. See Num 30:8,13 Or supposing husband or man planned to go out and wife or woman says …. Think of example that has “if” condition like in Num 22:20 And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do.
