LEVITICUS

The following are some points I suggest a reader should note when reading Genesis in order to understand it and the rest of the Bible. It is copied from notes made and hopefully, will be re-written when time permits.
The title "Leviticus" is a transliteration of the title in the Septuagint (the ancient Gr. translation of the OT). It is so named because it records the duties of the Levites. The Hebrew name for the book (the first word of the Hebr. text) means "and He called."
This title is representative of the content and purpose of the book, namely the calling of God's people, and in particular the

calling of the Levites to minister before Him.

This third book of Moses is a primer for the moral and ethical instruction of the chosen of God. As such, it contains civil, sanitary, ceremonial, moral, and religious regulations for the nation of Israel. All the offerings, as well as the ceremonies and laws, served to constantly remind Israel that God was eminently holy.
God could be approached only by the priests, and then only in strict obedience to the detailed instructions for purification. God required the sacrifice of innocent animals for the covering of man's sin. These sacrifices symbolic of the ultimate sacrifice which would take away the sin of the whole world (John 1:29). Leviticus, some things to note: Theme, how meticulous God’s instructions are showing His specific character that not anything, method or day is acceptable to Him.
“Jehoshua” proper way to spell and pronounce word spelt Jesus. You would note it has “Jeho” God’s name within the name (as in Jehovah)
Lev 1:1 God speaking to Moses from tabernacle, Holy of Holies above Tabernacle. (Deut 34:10). God speaking to Moses mentioned 50 times. V3,10 choice of male without blemish. (clean, perfect if not, the best, things for God as ones dress code in church).
Lev 1:6 even the wood had to be laid in “order” not any manner. The whole book shows how meticulous God is. Giving specific details for everything. One may overlook this very important characteristic of God. Such a character does not change or lowers their standard for “Gentiles”. Even later when He says to make a trumpet, He adds “from one piece of metal”. Ask self why and you may get a better understanding of God so that when the deceiver says God/Jesus has changed this or that, you will know it is uncharacteristic (to know me is to know my father; to see me is to see the Father).
Lev 1:17 same as Abraham in Gen 15:10 not dividing bird, yet other animal sacrifices were divided. Hence God’s regulations present before given to Moses and tribes of Israel.
Lev 2: 11, 13 no honey and necessity of salt. See Lev 5:2
Lev 3:17 fat (and later blood mentioned (see Lev 17:10, 14 for one)) belongs to God.
Lev 4:2 sinning in ignorance still a sin. Breaking commandments was a sin then, would it not be a sin now to break one ie the 4th or is God unfair? Then a penalty was imposed or method for forgiveness (Lev 4:26). Are Christian’s now excused? Also see Lev 5:1-6, 15; 22:14 Num 15:28, Ex 19:13 relating to innocent animal.
Lev 6:9, 14 etc. Many places you should note word “this is the law of…” Different to Commandments. See elaboration in booklet “Have I got it Right God” Lev 6:13 fire continuous.
Lev 8:33 Seven is not an arbitrary number; but one of God’s numbers as is 3 and 40. Each has specific meaning and status. Hence the seventh day not 1st, sixth etc
Lev 10:1-2 priests (Aaron’s sons) broke God’s instruction (Ex 39:38) in offering an un-prescribed incense. Their good intentions did not count nor was their offering accepted. God only prescribed one weekly day as holy and for a convocation to Him; the 7th (Saturday).
Lev 11(ALL) note v43-44 and Lev 20:25-6 Clean and unclean animals. Same as known by Noah (Gen 7:8) before given to Moses etc. God is holy. God’s people must live clean lives, separated from the world. If the world wishes to be Godly (holy), they must obey the same rules. Be grafted into them NOT they be changed to accommodate the world. Lev 19:3 Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my Sabbaths: I am the LORD your God. Peter (like other N.T. writers) quoted from O.T. in 1Pet 1:15, 16 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, be ye holy; for I am holy. 2 Cor 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, quoted from Is 52:11 Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean, that bear the vessels of the LORD.
Lev 12:3 Shows laws are repetition of what was before, ie to Abraham.
Lev 14:5 “running” water, Lev 8:23; 14:14, 17, 25,28and Ex 29:20 very specific places. Lev 14:7, 16, 27 “seven times”.
Lev 15:24 see Lev 20:8
Lev 16:2-5 cannot go before God any how. Must be dressed for occasion and have blood of animal or Jehoshua as your intercessor. 16:10 note “scapegoat”. 16:29 example of statute for all God’s people “stranger/gentile” included. Now we see Commandments, Laws and now statutes. Being forever…”a” Sabbath different from “the” weekly seventh day (Saturday) Sabbath.
Lev 17:7 They are to stop offering to devils. V8-10 house of Israel and stranger treated same. V11 blood make atonement for soul.
Lev 18:3 God tells them not to copy things of Egypt from where they use to live nor of the new land where He is taking them. Nor to observe their ordinances (regulations and practice). Yet Christians have adopted the “Sun” day of worship day for their own and believe the deceiver that it is ok or from God. Note Deut 12:3, 8,13, 14, 30-32; 13:15-16 about mixing with or adopting any non Jehovah’s instructions. Worshiping in place of your choosing or doing what you think right in your eyes. Lev 18:4-5 doing God’s ways gives life. Lev 18:20 existed in Abraham and Sarah’s time with king Abimelech, v22-27 against homosexuals and was custom of nations who God cast out. Is abominable practice to God and defiled the land (see also Deut 20:13, 23:18 “dog”).
Lev 19:9,10 kept by Ruth in Ruth 2:2-7
Lev 19:15 No respecter of wealth. Lev 19:17 same as what Jehoshua quoted in Math 5:22, Note v26 “observe times” see Deut 17:3, v28 re: tattoos, Note 19:30.
Lev 20:6, 27 against Spiritualist churches and individuals who claim to contact the dead.
Lev 21:1-3, 7, 9 priests who come before God not to be defiled except for immediate family; but only for virgin sister. Only to marry virgin (v13) and daughter that defile self defiles priests.
Lev 23 Appointed feasts and other Sabbaths apart from weekly Saturday one. V2, 37 for purpose of “holy convocation” gathering not mere rest at home or from work doing own thing.. v14 and v21“statute forever”.
V10 “first fruits” see 1 Cor 15:20. Lev 23:16, 50 days after seven Sabbaths becomes Sunday. A special appointed feast day not for every weekly Sunday. That is why Day of Pentecost in Acts 2:1 fell on a Sunday. Apostles and rest of God’s people from around the world were keeping the feast of the Old Testament NOT starting a new weekly day of worship.
Lev 23:30-32 violators, (remember relates to Jew and Gentile) “cut off”. Statute forever. So would God then in N.T. change rules for others? NO. Note day starts from evening to evening (Lev 16:29).
Lev 23:42 (see for example Neh 8:17)
Lev 24:22 Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.
Lev 25;21 “ 3 years”. Blessings outside natures normal annual course if show trust and reliance on God by obeying His commands.
Lev 26:1 Catholic break this.
Lev 26:3 “if ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them; Then I will…”. Many Christian call on God’s blessing from the O.T. without noting the condition “IF”. They believe the commandments, laws, rules etc were only for the Jews yet call on the same promises given to those Jews.! See also v14-15 “if will not obey”

Wednesday Died 3pm (Mat 27:46; Mar 15:34).

Sabbath (Mat 12:40. 3 days & nights ends after 3pm. People at home keeping Sabbath. Jesus anywhere)
1st day wk (Sunday) Already risen before 5a.m but missed now Mat 28:1)
Fifty days later came day of Pentecost (Lev 23:16 and Acts 2 as to why all men came to Jerusalem to keep it and Yahsua told disciples to wait there rather than go round world).
Lev 23:24 .. a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation. 1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 1Co 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. Know God’s appointed times. They may save you being deceived by an event on the wrong day. Yahsua’s life was in step with these times. His day of death as well as His 2nd coming.
Lev 23:27 is what the people had to do and Lev 16 is what the High Priest did on the same day. Note the people simply had to confess their sins not kill any animals. That was reserved solely for the High Priest whose office was returned to Yahsua the last High Priest and sacrificial lamb. Hence ending of priestly *duty NOT the day or holy convocation on it. We can still continue to do the part God commanded us, offer baked bread or cakes!! NOTICE VERSES 29-30 (Especially since separating veil of it torn on His death and temple destroyed A.D. 70).
Lev 23:40 Want to party? Here is one for seven days. Better than the false pagan Xmas.
