Fornication

Returning to the wrong interpretation of fornication as commonly thought to be a sexual act rather than a metaphor Mat 5:32  But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Firstly note the use of fornication is to do with false god worship in 2Ch 21:11  Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and compelled Judah thereto. Isa 23:17  And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.

The difference between idolatry and fornication is that not all false god’s are idols.  Some are planets and the sun, moon and host of heaven.  To worship such is fornication.

A person who believes fornication is a sexual act, this week using Matt 5:32 reasoned that the husband could put away his wife for no other reason except she sleeps with another (commits fornication).  When she goes with the subsequent man she has not committed adultery because she was rightly put away!

I said to them if that is the case, the husband put her away for sleeping with person A, which he says is fornication; but when she goes onto man B she is not committing adultery.  He said that was his understanding.  Even though the reason the husband put her away was having sex with another man, yet his putting her away caused her to have sex with person B.  He has apparently caused her to do the very thing for which he put her away.

The person continued, the first act was fornication; but the second was not adultery if she was rightly put away.  He said the first sex act was wrong; but not the second.  To me that means that if man B puts her away from sleeping with person A, he would be within his rights and she can go onto person C without being guilty of adultery.  The person said that was their understanding of Mat 5:32, that only the first act would be wrong but not subsequent ones if each subsequent man put her away for sleeping with a previous man!!!  Bizarre to me; but apparently makes sense o them.  Using that logic, a woman can sleep around and not be guilty providing she gets the previous man to put her away for her previous sexual acts.

I pointed out to him that in God’s law the result of sleeping with a man’s wife was death not putting her away.  Lev 20:10  And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

Lev 20:11  And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. Lev 20:12  And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them. Lev 20:14  And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you.

In short, God only intended for a woman to have one sexual partner in her life.  That partner automatically becomes her husband. Whether they live together or not.  There is no living in sin.  You are married in God’s eyes unless in your mind it is never intended to be as married. Only if he dies can she go unto another who, if he had a brother, would be that brother.  Going with any other man or in any other circumstance is adultery, sin.  She either returns or stays alone. 1Co 7:10  And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: 1Co 7:11  But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

For that reason, Solomon did not put away any of his wives as he would have caused her and the man subsequently being with her to sin via adultery.  We live with our mistakes or pray to God to change hearts and actions to make the mistake turn for the better.  As Christians we are called to change and nothing is beyond God.

Today, the deceiver has brought traditions in to breakups as “moving on” irreconcilable differences, drew apart etc.  all of which lead to adultery.  It should not be what we want or desire; but thus says Yahweh God.  Shalom.
