WHAT IS THE SABBATH
Question: What is the Sabbath and how is it kept?
It is not another word for rest; but for a period of time, sunset the sixth day (Friday evening) to sunset the seventh day (Saturday evening) (Genesis 1:8). Thus one cannot keep the Sabbath at any other time or day. As that would mean one can move the name around to refer to any time. One cannot move a specific time set by the sun and moon around. So calling any other day a or your Sabbath is anti bible and imposing an imposter similar to that of identification theft of person!
Reasons why to keep Sabbath, Acts 5:29 “to obey God rather than man”. Many Churches and individuals around the world are accepting the truth of the Sabbath and change to its observance without changing their denomination, i.e. they remain, Methodist, Baptist, Pentecostal or other only simply change their day of worship. Whether theology professors, authors against the Sabbath or church leaders, once they really discover that the Sabbath is a sign used to distinguish God’s people and will be one of the separating factors at the end of the world. Eze 20:12 Moreover also I gave them my Sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them. Exo 31:13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my Sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you (also Eze 20:20). Remember Israel is his real people, separated from the pagans. Eze 22:26 Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my Sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. Do not act out Acts 7:51
HOW IS THE SABBATH KEPT
By abstaining from work, ones own pleasures and self indulging conversation. It is the Lord’s Day. Isaiah 58:13 “If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words”. Not buying, selling or trading (Neh 10:31 And if the people of the land bring ware or any victuals on the Sabbath day to sell, that we would not buy it of them on the Sabbath, or on the holy day. Also Neh 13:15, 19). Devoting it to God, the creator of heaven and earth. Lev 23:3 “7th day is Sabbath of rest, a holy convocation”. Now is this rest purely for our pleasure and benefit or so we can focus on and worship God without distractions? This was answered above with Isaiah 58:13 Him or good works free from personal gain, not simply resting .It also benefits us by keeping our perspectives real, not working ourselves into the ground 24, 7, chasing material things. Of course some may be ordered to work on that day; but with effort and prayers, it may be possible to negotiate a change in hours or job. Your obedience and keeping of His Sabbath day as He prescribed is your honourable sacrifice to Him. If you offer Him your time on Sun day as “your” Sabbath it is an insult like Aaron's sons offered strange fire. 1Co 10:21 “Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's Table and of the table of devils”. One cannot mix things historically offered to devils (Sun day, the day of the Sun god) to God.
Sun day worship was a pagan set aside time. Lev 18:3 After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances. Lev 18:4 Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God Lev 19:26 Ye shall not… observe times. God detests the things of the pagans so much that not even the best or gold He wants or us to keep See 1 Sam 15:21, Deu 7:25 The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God. Deu 7:26 neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thoushalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing. How individuals keep it varies. It could include singing of hymns, church service attendance, Christian and bible discussions, study, board game playing, family meal and relaxing. Principal restraint, no worldly work.
